I was stunned when I read this article: it seems that a dad in Minnesota taught his son to speak Klingon before anything else, even English!

Now, aside from the fact that I’m not a big Star Trek fan to begin with, this guy having the gall to experiment on his son really pisses me off. The article does state that the guy is a linguist, but did he stop to think about how this could hinder the kid’s growth and development? Our society is not geared towards those chosen few who deem it a necessity to learn the Klingon language. Nor is it very forgiving of those folks who are bit different when it comes to particular things. Luckily, the article continues, the boy grew up to be a normal teen, who states he doesn’t remember a word of the language. I guess this goes to show that overall environmental exposure to certain elements will eventually produce results.

In other news, Cinematical lists Seven Sci-Fi Series That Need Movie Reboots. I love this list overall, but was especially happy to see Earth 2 in it. Earth 2 was one of the best Sci-Fi shows to have ever graced the small-screen. It was very well written with an intriguing plot and personable characters. Heck, it was even nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. So why did they cancel it after one season?

Also on Cinematical’s list is Buck Rogers. I’m kinda torn on this one. I loved watching the show as a kid, but I don’t know if a reboot is needed for this one right now. It seems to me that the whole sci-fi genre is saturated with space heroes at the moment, much like the vampire genre. I guess we’ll have to see if Hollywood can drum up something that makes it unique.
